LMNT Electrolytes Review: 2023

If you’re looking for a solid electrolyte drink mix, you can’t get much better than LMNT Electrolytes. While there are many electrolytes on the market today, it can be hard to decide which one is right for you.

Hopefully, this LMNT Electrolytes Review can help you get closer to figuring out if LMNT is the right choice for your situation. I’ll tell you all about it, give you some things to consider before making your choice, and some other options if you end up deciding that LMNT isn’t what you’re looking for.

Now, let’s figure out if you want to drink LMNT!

What are LMNT Electrolytes?

LMNT electrolytes are a delicious drink mix that provides a serious dose of three of the most critical electrolytes that we need for optimal body function.

We all know that hydration is important, but if we’re pounding back jugs of water and not including electrolytes in the mix, we could be doing more harm than good.

Fortunately, we have amazing options like LMNT to help us meet our electrolyte needs.

Who Created LMNT Electrolytes?

Founders of LMNT Electrolytes

LMNT was started by Robb Wolf, Nicki Violetti, Luis Villaseñor, and James Murphy. It started when Robb, a very popular figure in the Cross Fit and Paleo Diet communities, started to notice that his performance wasn’t where he wanted it to be.

After talking it over with his coaches, it was determined that he needed more electrolytes, specifically sodium.

Once he started playing around with formulas and got it dialed in, everything changed for him. It was then that he realized just how important Sodium levels are to health and performance.

LMNT was born out of the desire to help people dial in that often missing piece of nutrition.

LMNT Electrolyte Formula

LMNT provides a meaningful dose of three key electrolytes. You don’t have to worry that you’re spending your hard-earned money and not getting what you paid for.

Each LMNT Electrolytes Packet Includes

  • 1,000 mg Sodium Chloride
  • 200 mg Potassium Chloride
  • 6 mg Magnesium Malate

There is no sugar, fillers, or artificial colors that you find in other drink mixes. It’s sweetened with stevia and flavored with natural flavors.

They also use citric acid to help with the fruity taste profile. If you want to know more about citric acid and where they source it for LMNT, you can read more about it here on their website.

Note

If you want to avoid citric acid entirely, their Raw, Unflavored option does not contain any.

LMNT is more expensive than some other electrolyte powders, but you get a higher dose of electrolytes in each packet.

One box will cost you $45. This breaks down to $1.50 per packet.

The subscribe and save option drops the price to $39 per box which comes out to $1.30 per packet.

If you order 3 boxes you get a 4th box for free, so this will knock down the per-packet price to $1.12.

If you combine Subscribe and Save WITH the Insider Bundle, it knocks the per-packet price down to $0.975.

While LMNT is more expensive, they give you several options to knock the price down. You can also stretch them out by using half of a packet at a time.

A lot of other brands have half the dose of electrolytes that LMNT has, so breaking up a packet into two servings makes it comparable to other brands as far as the amount of electrolytes for the price.

LMNT Flavors in a line over a guy drinking water in the background

LMNT comes in 8 different flavors. Sometimes there are special, limited flavors, but the following is their usual lineup.

Citrus Salt:

This flavor is similar to your lemon-lime Gatorade flavor. The saltiness and limey, citrus flavor of citrus salt give serious margarita vibes. I really like citrus salt, but it’s not my personal fav.

Orange Salt:

This is another flavor that will remind you of old-school Gatorade flavors. To me, it tastes like a saltier version of the sports drink I had as a kid. Orange Salt has that nostalgia thing going on. Solid flavor!

Watermelon Salt:

This is my favorite flavor! If you’re a fan of Watermelon Jolly Ranchers or Watermelon Sour Patch Kids, you’ll probably dig this flavor. It doesn’t taste exactly like those do, but I think it tastes more like watermelon candy than it does actual watermelon. I absolutely love this one!

Raspberry Salt:

This is another one that I find myself grabbing more often than some of the others. Flavors are definitely a personal thing, so if you love raspberry, I would give Raspberry Salt a try.

My Recommendation

Variety Pack

I recommend starting with their Variety Pack which includes 3 each of Citrus Salt, Orange Salt, Raspberry Salt, and Watermelon Salt. These are the flavors I personally reach for the most and you can try them out in a 12-pack instead of committing to 30 packets of only one flavor.

Mango Chili:

This flavor really surprised me. I love mango, but I’m not usually into spicy things and the thought of my electrolyte drink mix being spicy seemed weird. I have to say, this flavor was awesome. It had a delicious mango flavor with just a hint of spicy flavor. Loved it!

Lemon Habanero:

Lemon Habanero is my least favorite flavor. It just didn’t do it for me. It tasted the most artificial and was just not great in my opinion.

Chocolate Salt:

Not gonna lie, I haven’t tried this one yet. As soon as I do I’ll update you on what I thought about it, but I’m having trouble getting myself to drink this. I HAVE heard someone else say this is their favorite flavor and they drink it hot, like hot chocolate. Could be interesting.

Raw Unflavored:

This one is exactly how it sounds. You could easily add this to something other than water if you wanted to increase the electrolytes without any flavor.

Who Are LMNT Electrolytes For

  • LMNT is great for anyone on a whole foods diet or someone who follows a paleo or ketogenic lifestyle. The sugar-free element of LMNT (see what I did there) is perfect for these types of lifestyles.
  • If you’re having trouble staying hydrated you could benefit from electrolyte supplementation. Do you drink a ton of water but still feel like you’re thirsty? LMNT electrolytes can help you maintain proper fluid balance.
  • If you have a job that requires a lot of physical labor, especially labor out in the heat, LMNT would be great for you.
  • Athletes who sweat a lot need to make sure they stay properly hydrated so they can perform at their best. LMNT is great for them.
  • If you’re on a diet you can benefit from using LMNT. Dieting involves calorie restriction, which can often lead to electrolyte deficiency. Supplementing with LMNT could be very beneficial.
  • If you have gastrointestinal issues you could be in need of LMNT. We lose a lot of water through loose, watery stools or vomiting and LMNT can help replace those lost electrolytes.
  • For anyone looking to incorporate more healthy habits into their life, adding an electrolyte drink is an easy habit to add in. If you’re trying to drink more water but you’re finding it difficult, LMNT can make it easier.

Precautions When Taking LMNT Electrolytes

LMNT has a full gram of salt in each packet. While this is fine for most people, if you are on a low-salt diet, you might want to be careful. Talk to your doctor, look at your overall diet, and make an informed decision about whether LMNT is right for you.

One way you could still get the benefits of LMNT while remaining cautious with your salt intake is to split a packet up into more than one serving.

My Take:

LMNT is a tasty electrolyte drink mix that provides a meaningful dose of the three key electrolytes that many people are often deficient in – Sodium, Potassium, and Magnesium. It does this in a mix that includes no sugar and no artificial ingredients.

I haven’t found another powder with electrolyte doses this high. While LMNT does cost more than some other brands, you get more, so the cost makes sense.

If you’re serious about your electrolyte intake while maintaining a whole food, paleo, or keto lifestyle, I highly recommend LMNT.

They’re my choice and I use them several times a week. If you like watermelon-flavored things, then I recommend Watermelon Salt. If you’re more into old-school flavors like you used to get with Gatorade, then Citrus Salt and Orange Salt are good places to start.

Expect a salty punch and know you can always dilute it to your liking if it’s too salty for you. I usually mix it with 16oz of water because I like the saltiness mixed with the flavoring. I will sometimes use a half of a packet on days I don’t sweat much, or if I want to stretch out the last of my packets before I order more.

I’ve noticed an increase in my energy when I drink LMNT, so be ready to start feeling better if you decide to give LMNT a try, and remember they have a no-questions-asked refund policy if you don’t like them, so there’s no risk.

Now, go get salty!
